Kerr, Garrison tops today at Pine Hills...
Ryan Kerr of Calgary Elks fired a steady 1-over par 73 today to capture his second Tour title at the immaculately groomed Pine Hills GC just west of Rocky Mountain House. The course is hosting a Golf Canada Future Links tournament in two weeks and it is obvious the grounds crew has been working tons of overtime to prepare the course for some of Western Canada's top juniors that will come to Rocky. The players on hand today for the Pine Hills Junior Open were treated to these spectacular course conditions under sometimes cloudy and drizzly skies. Kerr also won the 2009 Kevin Hipple Memorial Junior Open at Pinebrook GCC in Calgary. His 73 today was three shots clear of runner-up Okie Iredale of Cochrane.
Both Kerr and Iredale qualified for the season ending Tour Championship at Wolf Creek Golf Resort on August 30. They will be joined by Michael Pruss of River Bend in Red Deer, whose 81 was best in the flight for players born in 1996 and later, along with Wild Card Qualifiers Cole Niawchuk (79) of the host club and Innisfail's Colby Massignan (80).
A excellent field of six junior girls was on hand today, highlighted by the first Tour event of the season for Country Hills' Christie Lin, the 2009 Tour Champion. Sadly, Christie was forced to withdraw in mid-round due to illness, but we were excited to learn that Christie qualified last week for the U.S.G.A. Junior Girls' Championship later this month in North Carolina. She earned her spot in Sectional Qualifying in Indiana. Congratulations, Christie and good luck at the U.S. Junior!
The other junior girls on hand today turned in outstanding efforts as well. Sabrine Garrison of Country Hills shot 83 to edge her clubmate Mandy Wong by 3 shots, and in the process also qualify to compete in the Tour Championship. This was Sabrine's first McLennan Ross Sun Junior Tour win, and we suspect it won't be the last!
Next event on Tour is tomorrow in Whitecourt with tee times off the first tee commencing at 9:15 a.m. If you are entered in Whitecourt tomorrow, please phone the course to obtain your tee time. Barrhead's Junior Open completes a busy week with their event on Thursday.
