Thiels and Macdonald win today in Olds...

Jason Thiels of Olds has played on the Tour since he was probably 12 or 13 and he made his last appearance in the Olds Junior Open well worthwhile today by firing a steady 2-under par 70 to win his home town Junior Open. Thiels mixed in four birdies with two bogies to come in two shots ahead of up and coming Brett Pasula of the Glendale. Jeremy Vold of Heritage Pointe and Andrew Cook of Pinebrook were another shot back in joint third with 73s.

Thiels and Vold both qualified for the Tour Championship coming up on August 30 at Wolf Creek, and will be joined by Matt Williams of Pinebrook (75) from the flight for boys born in 1994/95. Williams has had a busy month, finishing 8th at the Alberta Golf Association Junior Boys' Championship and following that up making the cut at last week's Canadian Junior Championship. Logan Hill (79) of River Bend qualified out of the flight for boys born in 1996 and later. Wild Card qualifiers were Vold along with Scott Secord (76) of Country Hills and Jordan Brown of Woodside, also with a 76.

We had a strong field of 12 junior girls on hand today. Sydney Macdonald of Earl Grey and Casara Hong of Country Hills each boasted 3-handicaps going into the event, and form held as they finished 1-2 with scores of 74 and 76 respectively. Each earned her way into the Tour Championship with those efforts this morning.

Next up on Tour is at Black Bull Golf Resort at Ma-Me-O Beach on Thursday, August 12. This is arguably the toughest course the kids will play all summer on Tour and not for the faint of heart! General Manager Judy Wyley and her staff put on an excellent tournament over a very challenging course, and they will hold entries open until 4 p.m. on Wednesday August 11 to help fill the field.

PQ = Player had previously qualified for Tour Championship.
