Becky Beats 'Em,,,,,
Becky Martin of Medicine Hat GCC is one of Alberta's top junior girls, as evidenced by her T6 finish at the recent Frank LIndsay Alberta Junior Girls' Championship and her Top 40 finish at the Golf Canada Canadian Junior Girls Championship. Martin was also part of the victorious Team Alberta at the annual Alberta/ Montana Ryder Cup Matches earlier this week in Whitefish, MT. Today, Martin dropped in to the Nanton GC for the latest stop on the McLennan Ross Sun Junior Golf Tour and she continued her fine play, firing a 1-over par 72 to capture the Overall Low Gross Title at the tournament.
Nine junior girls were on hand today, and Erica Mayer of Heritage Pointe was runner-up to Martin, firing an 80 which also earned her a spot with Martin at the upcoming Tour Championship at Wolf Creek Golf Resort. Marisa Sambo of Willow Park was third with an 85.
In the junior boys' division, Sean-Paul Gallagher of River's Edge and Drew Barvir of Heritage Pointe tied for first with matching 74s. Canmore's Eric Praught and Dane Biluk of the Calgary GCC were T3 on 76. Qualifiers for the Tour Championship today included both Gallagher and Barvir, joined by Wild Card qualifiers Christian Guyette of Glencoe and Calgary GCC's John McKiernan, both at 78. Qualifying out of the flight for boys forn in 1996 and later was Mac Pretty of Priddis Greens, with a 77.
Only two 'regular season' events remain on the Tour schedule. Monday, August 23 the Tour drops into Calgary's McKenzie Meadows for an 8 a.m shotgun start, and the final event prior to the Tour Championship comes up next Wednesday in Ponoka, an event postponed by rain in late July.
Q = Qualified for Tour Championship at Wolf Creek Golf Resort on August 30.
WC = Wild Card Qualifier for Wolf Creek.
PQ = Player had previously qualified for Tour Championship.
