Today's Tournament Summary

It was quite frankly a minor miracle that we were able to play today at the waterlogged Lacombe GCC.  After only the second postponement in the Tour's 15 year history yesterday at Carstairs, we were pleasantly surprised at the shape of the Lacombe GCC today.  The grounds crew was out in full force to prepare the course for 63 juniors from throughout Central Alberta and even though players were permitted to lift, clean and place the golf ball today, the course was in excellent shape given the four inches of rain they have received over the last two days.  What an outstanding effort by the course Superintendent and his crew!

Jason McKinlay of Consort is now working in the pro shop at Lacombe for the summer and he made excellent use of his newfound 'home' course knowledge by firing a steady 1-over par 72 today, good for a 3-shot margin of victory over up and come'r Jason Martens of Windermere.  Martens earned his second runner-up finish of the week, after finishing second on Monday at Blackhawk. Brett Hawken of Montgomery Glen in Wetaskiwin was solo third at 77.  Cam MacInnis of Broadmoor and McKinlay's younger brother Curtis finished T4 with matching 78s.

Jason McKinlay of Lacombe, winner of today's Jordan Brand Memorial Junior Open in Lacombe.

The McKinlay brothers, MacInnis, and Hawken all earned their way into the field for the season ending Tour Championship just up the QEII at Wolf Creek Golf Resort on August 30 with their scores today.  Also punching his ticket for Wolf Creek today was Wild Card qualifier Jared Nichols of Wolf Creek with a 79.  This was a rare case when one of the Wild Card qualifiers came out of the flight for junior boys born in 1996 and later.  This flight for the younger players featured some excellent performances today!

Megan Vermillion of Broadmoor was low in the junior girls division today with a 94 and also earned her way into the field for the Tour Championship.

The Tour is idle now until next Monday, which kicks off a four-events-in-four-days swing through Central Alberta. Ponoka, Leduc, Montgomery Glen and Camrose all promise to be fun and challenging tournaments on next week's schedule as the Tour kicks into high gear for the summer. Watch the website tomorrow for a summary of entry fees, start times and other features of this busy week on Tour.
