What a Day!

Cloudless skies. A searing summer sun. A full field of junior golfers from as far away as Red Deer and Whitecourt.  A gorgeous golf course in superb condition.  All the ingredients for a super day of junior golf in Golden, BC.

Spectacular Rocky Mountain scenery is a hallmark of the Golden GCC.

With temperatures soaring to 32C today at the Golden GCC, it was a challenge to help keep 42 junior golfers hydrated, but the players went through 15 gallons of PowerAde and plenty of water to help cool themselves off today.  The only thing hotter than the temperatures was perhaps the golf game of Kirsty Macdonald of Banff Springs, who fired a personal-best in competition round of 1-under par 71 to capture the girls' division of the Golden Junior Open. Macdonald was a model of consistency, with only one bogey offset by two birdies on the beautifully manicured Golden layout.  Kirsty's 71 was the low score on Tour this year by a junior girl and earned her a spot in the season-ending Tour Championship on August 30th at Wolf Creek Golf Resort.  Seven junior girls were in the field today, and Laura Ferriera of Canmore finished runner-up with an 80.

The boys played today too!  Alex Cartwright of Canmore has been a regular at Tour events for years, and although he has now moved to Victoria, BC, the former Canmore resident is a force to be reckoned with, as evidence by his even-par 72 effort today. Cartwright needed every stroke as Cam McCormack of Bearspaw was only one shot behind at the end of the day with a fine 73 of his own, giving McCormack his second runner-up finish of the 2010 Tour season. Tanner Melnychyn, McCormacks' clubmate at Bearspaw, Eric Praught of Canmore, and Austin Jacobson of Ponoka finished T3 with 77s, all earing their spots in the field for the Tour Championship with their games today.

Robert Flaman-Haley made the journey from Red Deer worth his while as his 78 was tops in the flight for boys born in 1996 and later, and also earned Robert a spot for Wolf Creek.

Next event on Tour is tomorrow at the equally scenic Canmore GC, with further events coming up later in the week at Strathmore and Carstairs.

Q = Qualified for Tour Championship at Wolf Creek Golf Resort on August 30th.

WC = Wild Card qualifier for Tour Championship.

PQ = Player had previously qualified for Tour Championship.

Code of Conduct

The McLennan Ross Sun Junior Golf Tour takes great pride in the quality of its competitors, its host facilities, and the support provided by our Corporate Partners. The efforts of the administrative staff and the volunteers that go into making the Tour so successful demand a very high standard of behavior and decorum from the competitors. We have therefore developed a formal Code of Coduct modeled on that of Alberta Golf that provides a set of guidelines for the young men and women that wish to compete in McLennan Ross Sun Junior Golf Tour events.
