Country Hills Rules in Carstairs...

One of the joys of working with kids is seeing their improvement and growth both as golfers and as people. When a young player achieves a personal best performance, it is always cause for celebration and we had three of those PB's today in Carstairs.

Cameron Hill of Country Hills GCC in Calgary fired his first ever round in the 60s today with a 3-under par 69 to capture the junior boys' division at the Carstairs Junior Open. Hill admitted to being really nervous down the stretch as he had it 3-under with a few holes to go, and despite a bogey on his 17th hole, he rebounded with a birdie-4 on the par-5 third hole, his 18th of the day to shoot his 69. Ryan Kerr of Calgary Elks shot a fine 73 of his own today which would have won a lot of times, but he had to tip his cap to Hill today. Theo Olver of Three Hills and Andrew Rados of Inglewood finished T3 on 76.

Qualifiers for the Tour Championship coming up on August 30th at Wolf Creek included Thomas Magee of Cochrane (78) in the flight for boys born in 1991-93, Rados in the flight for boys born in 1994-95, Brendan Brown of The Hamptons (78) and Carter Lewis (78) of Priddis Greens from the flight for boys born in 1996 and later, and Wild Card Qualifiers Brodie Kilpatrick of Olds and Tomas Assel-Moore of Cochrane, with 77s.

A very fine personal best round was established in the Junior Girls division today by Mandy Wong, also of Country Hills. Mandy topped her previous best round by three shots with an even-par 72! She was 5 shots ahead of 13-year old Jaclyn Lee pf Valley Ridge in Calgary who fired a fine 77, which also qualified her for Wolf Creek. Lee's older sister Carolyn was another shot back in third with a 78.

And it's not ALL about the prize winners when talking about setting new personal standards. Mathias Labonte of Carstairs, who is maybe all of 12, broke 100 today for the first time with a 99 and he was every bit as happy as Hill and Wong!

Q = Qualified for Tour Championship at Wolf Creek.

WC = Wild Card Qualifier for Wolf Creek.

PQ = Player had previously qualified for Tour Championship.
