Today's Tournament Report

Brennan Kearney of the Fort McMurray GC wrapped up a very successful week of golf today by firing a steady 1-under par 71 to capture the Barrhead Junior Open, the latest stop on the McLennan Ross Sun Junior Golf Tour. On Monday Kearney finished T4 at the Edmonton qualifying site for the Frank Lindsay Alberta Junior Boys' Championship coming up next week in Sundre. On Tuesday, Brennan went to a sudden death playoff in Whitecourt before losing to Branton Tessier's birdie on the 2nd extra hole. Today in Barrhead, Kearney left nothing to chance with his 71, coming in two shots clear of Glendale clubmates Tyler Saunders and Barrett Belland. Four players tied for fourth another shot back at 74.

The Barrhead course was once again in absolutely pristine condition. It is always one of the best condidtioned courses anywhere in Alberta, and this year was no exception. Kudos to the grounds staff at this fabulous course less than an hour northwest of the Edmonton city limits.

O'Reilly and the Saunders brothers all earned their way into the field for the Tour Championship today, and will be joined by Wild Card qualifiers Jeff Cox (74) of Fort McMurray and Whitecourt's Mitchell Martell (74). Wyatt Williams of Mayerthorpe also qualified through the flight for players born in 1996 and later, with an 86.

Three junior girls were on hand today, and it came down to the wire between Sydney Johson-Parker of Glendale and Alanna Jefferis of Belvedere. Johnson-Parker's 88 pipped Jefferis by one shot for her spot in the Tour Championship. I heard that on a European Golf Channel tournament,,,pipped,,,how quaint.

Next event on Tour is a biggie,,,at Blackhawk GC on Monday, July 12. Blackhawk was ranked the #15 course in Canada by SCORE Golf magazine for good reason and promises to be a treat for the players on Monday. As of this morning, they had a few spots still open, but entries will close on Saturday, July 10 at 6 pm so if you want to take advantage of this rare opportunity to play one of the country's finest courses, CALL THEM NOW TO ENTER!

Q = Qualified for season ending Tour Championship on Monday, August 30 at Wolf Creek Golf Resort.

WC = Wild Card qualifier for Tour Championship.
