One of the best rounds in Tour history was turned in last year at the Ponoka Junior Open by the host club's Ryan Moore; a brilliant 9-birdie 66 that captured Moore the 2008 event.  Today, Moore wasn't quite as spectacular, firing four birdies to offset two bogies, but his 2-under par 70 was still good enough to repeat his 2008 championship. Mike Saunders of Glendale finished solo second at even-par 72, while 14-year-old Matthew McCourt of Drayton Valley and Nolan West of Pine Hills GC in Rocky Mountain House tied for third another shot back at 73.

Moore (shown here) earned his way into the 2009 Tour Championship just a few miles down the road at Wolf Creek Golf Resort by virtue his efforts today and will be joined by Cole Feth of Camrose (78) who topped the flight for boys born in 1993/94 along with Jason Martens (79) of Windermere from the flight for boys born in 1995 and later.  Also qualifying today were Wild Cards Kirk Williscroft (75) of Innisfail and Alex Boyce (76) from Red Deer's Balmoral GC.

Kylie Barros of the Edmonton Petroleum Club was best of the nine junior girls on hand today with an 82, but Kylie could be excused as being on a bit of a letdown after her sparkling efforts last week at the Alberta Golf Junior Girls' Championship at Canyon Meadows in Calgary, where she finished fourth and earned a spot on the Alberta Interprovincial Junior Girls Team that will represent the province at the RCGA Canadian Junior Girls' Championship August 3-7 in Hampton, NB.  Congratulations, Kylie!  As Kylie had previously qualified for Wolf Creek, today's spot for junior girls went to runner-up Cara Vanderham of Innisfail, the 2008 Srixon Order of Merit champion who was making her 2009 Tour debut today.  Vanderham was three strokes back of Kylie with an 85.

One of the fun things we have been doing lately with the kids in post-round activities is having a contest between two players selected either at random, or from a selection of the neatest scorecards.  Today's "Sponsor Showdown" game was between Alex Boyce  of Balmoral GC in Red Deer, and Kolby Vold, whose father Ryan Vold is the owner and Director of Golf at Wolf Creek.  Kolby won a nice shoe bag and some golf balls courtesy of the MacEwan Golf Management Program in the third round of the kids' alternating being able to name different Tour sponsors,  when he named Wolf Creek and Boyce could not come up with another name.  Kolby, if you had missed THAT one, your dad might have cut off your allowance!  See kids, both neatness AND paying attention to the sponsors whose support pays the bills for the Tour can pay dividends!

Next event on Tour is tomorrow in Leduc for an 8 am shotgun start.  We expect the biggest field of the year tomorrow with 105 players registered as of 6 p.m.tonight.  Get there early to avoid registration lineups.

Code of Conduct

The McLennan Ross Sun Junior Golf Tour takes great pride in the quality of its competitors, its host facilities, and the support provided by our Corporate Partners. The efforts of the administrative staff and the volunteers that go into making the Tour so successful demand a very high standard of behavior and decorum from the competitors. We have therefore developed a formal Code of Coduct modeled on that of Alberta Golf that provides a set of guidelines for the young men and women that wish to compete in McLennan Ross Sun Junior Golf Tour events.
