Calgary's McKenzie Meadows annually has hosted one of the larger fields on the Tour, with usually upwards of 110 players.  The field was down slightly this year due mainly to the Calgary kids registering for school today, a week earlier than first planned.  However, a total of 74 juniors were on site today for the last Tour event of the 2009 season prior to next Monday's Tour Championship at Wolf Creek Golf Resort. Many of the players on hand today had already earned their way into the field at Wolf Creek, but for everyone else, this was their last opportunity to nab a spot in next Monday's entry list.

Zach Baker of Cottonwood (shown here)was on fire on the back nine today, firing a 2-under par 34 to highlight his even-par 72, good for a narrow 1-shot margin over Chas Shields of Darcy Ranch in Okotoks. Glencoe's Christian Guyette was along in third with a 74. With many of the top finishers in each flight having previously qualified for Wolf Creek, the coveted qualifying spots today went to:

Liam Fitzgerald (78) - Boys born in 1993.94

Colton Young (76) - Boys born in 1990.91.92

Carter Grosart (75) - Boys born in 1995 and later.

Wild Cards - Riel Adkin (77), Patrick Raina (78) and Mack Pretty (78).

Junior Girl Qualifers -

Elizabeth Pettie (77) , Sydney McDonald (79) and Grace Howie (80)

Also, a nice finish today by Brendan Brown of The Hamptons, who finished T9 with a 78, which in and of itself isn't that special unless you consider Brendan turned 10 less than a month ago and will be the youngest player ever to tee it up in the Tour Championship next Monday at Wolf Creek.

The Best Dressed Award today goes to Dane Biluk (R), who showed up with a pair of Loudmouth golf slacks made famous this summer by John Daly!  I had a pair JUST like these, Dane,,,in 1974!!!!  Dane promised to trot out an even MORE colorful outfit on Monday at Wolf Creek!

A solid field of 12 junior girls was on hand  today, and Megan Paul of Canyon Meadows led the parade, firing a solid 76 to edge Elizabeth Pettie of Glencoe by a shot. Mandy Wong of Bearspaw and Earl Grey's Sydney McDonald tied for third with 79s.

Players who have qualified for the Tour Championship now have until Noon on Thursday, August 27th to phone Wolf Creek Golf Resort and get their entries confirmed.  The excitement is certainly building with the players, eager to test their games on the new Links Course at Wolf Creek next week.
