Warm morning skies turned into a blistering hot afternoon today at the Drayton Valley Junior Open, the second stop on the 2009 McLennan Ross Sun Junior Golf Tour schedule.  A field of 82 players from as far away as Grande Prairie and Red Deer were on hand under ideal scoring conditions and were treated to a golf course in very good condition and a tournament that is always a lot of fun for the tour players.  Post-round activities including a chipping contest  for terrific prizes.  Not a half hour after the kids finished the chipping contest, the skies opened under a torrential late afternoon thunderstorm.

Mason Sparrow (left), 18, of Broadmoor GC in Sherwood Park took down his first Tour win with a steady 2-over par 73, one shot clear of rising star James Ursulak, 15, of Ponoka.  Connor O'Reilly of the Derrick and Sparrow's clubmate Blake Roberts tied for third overall another shot back at 75. All four players qualified for the season-ending Tour Championship at Wolf Creek Golf Resort by viture of their performances today.

Joining the trio at Wolf Creek will be 14 yr old Matt McCourt of the host club, whose 79 topped the flight for boys born in 1995 and later.

Four junior girls were on hand today, and Teri-Lynn Adam (shown at right) of Ironhead GC at Wabumun fired a 91 to finish 6 shots ahead of Paige Bednorz of Sandpiper.  Adam also earned her spot in the field for Wolf Creek.

Next stop on the Tour is next weekend for a 36-hole event at Henderson Lake GC in Lethbridge, which always attracts a sold-out field and many of southern Alberta's top juniors.

Code of Conduct

The McLennan Ross Sun Junior Golf Tour takes great pride in the quality of its competitors, its host facilities, and the support provided by our Corporate Partners. The efforts of the administrative staff and the volunteers that go into making the Tour so successful demand a very high standard of behavior and decorum from the competitors. We have therefore developed a formal Code of Coduct modeled on that of Alberta Golf that provides a set of guidelines for the young men and women that wish to compete in McLennan Ross Sun Junior Golf Tour events.
