We had the rarest of golf events today.  Wallace O'Neil of Cochrane holed out a hybrid for a double eagle deuce on the 537-yard, par 5 18th hole today at the Olds Junior Open, to win the championship by one shot over J.D. Morrical of Red Deer GCC.  Okayyyyyyyyyyyyy, so technically, it wasn't Wallace's 18th hole of the day ( he started on #10 in the shotgun start) but it still makes for a great story!

This was only the 2nd Albatross in Tour history, coming a few years after one made in Canmore. But as memory serves, that other junior golfer did not win the tournament!  The day as a whole was terrific.  Blue skies, light breezes and a golf course in mint condition all made for a very enjoyable tournament for the kids.  Head Professional Wade Bearchell and the entire staff in Olds deserve high praise for the classy way in which the tournament was run.  They recruited plenty of volunteers; all the kids had prepaid their entry fees which made  for a very smooth registration process, and scoring went quickly with four scoring tables to handle the flow of players. From the 9 a.m. shotgun start, to driving out of their parking lot after  scoring, the post-round meal, and prize presentations, took only 5 hours and 20 minutes!

O'Neil and Morrical both earned their way into the season-ending Tour Championship at Wolf Creek Golf Resort by virtue of their performances today.  They will be joined by Wild Card qualifiers Jordie Weich of Innisfail (73), Mat MacDonald of Olds (73) and James Ursulak of Ponoka, whose 79 topped the flight for boys born in 1994 and later.  Tyler Cassidy of Red Deer GCC and Steven Davis of Belvedere in Edmonton tied for first at 78 in the flight for boys born in 1992/93 and both were awarded spots in the Tour Championship.  Maddison Kruger of Olds was the only junior girl entered today, but she nonetheless earns her spot in the Tour Championship.

Next event on Tour is Wednesday, July 9 in Lacombe.  As of 5 p.m. today, entries are closed for the Lacombe tournament, with 95 players expected to tee it up tomorrow at 9 am.  For anyone reading this who is entered in Lacombe, just a reminder that there is a breakfast buffet include in your entry fee, so please make plans to get to the course a bit early for a good breakfast!

Q = Qualified for Tour Championship at Wolf Creek on August 25.

WC = Wild Card Qualifier for Tour Championship

Code of Conduct

The McLennan Ross Sun Junior Golf Tour takes great pride in the quality of its competitors, its host facilities, and the support provided by our Corporate Partners. The efforts of the administrative staff and the volunteers that go into making the Tour so successful demand a very high standard of behavior and decorum from the competitors. We have therefore developed a formal Code of Coduct modeled on that of Alberta Golf that provides a set of guidelines for the young men and women that wish to compete in McLennan Ross Sun Junior Golf Tour events.
