At 8:45 a.m., 95 junior golfers from across the province were getting pelted by rain just before heading on the course for today's Jordan Brand Memorial Junior Open at the Lacombe GCC, today's stop on the Tour. But within 10 minutes, the rain let up and by 10 a.m., the sun was shining. Gusty winds throughout the day helped contribute to slightly higher than normal scores in Lacombe, or maybe it was their traditionally slick and sloped greens that kept anyone from matching par today.
Jeremy Marshall of Highlands GC in Edmonton coped the best today, firing a 3-over par 74 to edge out Jace James of the Lethbridge CC by one shot. Louis Dumais of Stony Plain finished solo third on 76, with J.D.Morrical and Myles Rindal of the Red Deer GCC and Connor O'Reilly of the Derrick T4 with matching 77s.
Marshall, James, Dumais, and Rindal all earned their way into the Tour Championship coming up on August 25 at Wolf Creek Golf Resort with their efforts today. They will be joined by Austin Jacobson of Wolf Creek, whose 78 topped the flight for boys born in 1994 and later.
A season-high total of 8 junior girls was on hand today, with the host club's Caitlin Kelliher punching her ticket to Wolf Creek with an 89, three shots ahead of Bearspaw's Delca Genius.
Next event on Tour is Thursday, July 10 in Whitecourt. This was a busy week, so I'm looking forward to 'relaxing' for the next three days helping out at the Telus Edmonton Open as a Starter! LOL
