TOURNAMENT HIGHLIGHTS:

For a while today, it appeared that we might have a repeat of the bad weather that hit the 2007 Drayton Valley Junior Open, but threatening skies in the morning gave way to mostly sunny conditions in the afternoon for 80 junior golfers from Grande Prairie to Calgary who competed today in the second stop of the 2008 McLennan Ross Sun Junior Tour schedule.  Jeremy Novakowski of the Grande Prairie GCC made the long trip from the north very worthwhile, firing a fine 2-over par 73 to edge Calgary Bearspaw's Mac Keats by a shot. Marc Reyes of Lancaster Park GC was solo third at 75. Three players were another shot back tied for fourth, including Scott Ellen of Lacombe, Novakowski's clubmate Nolan Trudeau and 2007 Alberta Golf Junior Americas Cup team member Shane O'Neill of Sturgeon Valley GC.

Qualifiers from today's event for the season-ending Tour Championship at Wolf Creek Golf Resort included Novakowski, Ellen, O'Neill, Trudeau and Marc Reyes, whose 75 was best in the flight for junior boys born in 1994 and later.

Rapidly improving Cara Vanderham of Innisfail shot a 92 today to earn her way to the Tour Championship, with Janais DeJong of Grande Prairie in second at 107.

Next event on the 2008 Tour is at Lethbridge's Henderson Lake GC, with a 36-hole tournament scheduled for June 21/22.
