A total of 76 juniors from across the province survived the first lightning delay on the Tour this year at the Carstairs Junior Open.  The players were about halfway through their round when it just became too dangerous to have the kids on the course with several thunderstorms swirling through the area.  We pulled the players off the course for about an hour, and were able to complete the round safely and successfully.

No one was more successful than Sturgeon Valley's Chad Rechlo, though.  Rechlo was coming off a solid performance at the Alberta Golf Junior Boys Championship last week in Claresholm, where he set a new course record 67 in the first round. Chad fired a steady 1-under par 71 today to nip 14-year old Jesse Teron of Red Deer by one stroke. Teron turned the tables on his older brother Chase, the defending Tour Championship winner, after Chase had beat Jesse the day before in Rocky Mountain House. Lane Kinas of Priddis Greens was another shot back in solo third on 73.

New qualifiers today for the Tour Championship included Kinas, Wild Cards Sean Crapo of Priddis Greens (74), Jason Thiels of Olds (74) and Mike Brady (74) of Cochrane, John Miller of Red Deer, whose 74 topped the flight for boys born in 1992/93, and Brennan Swanson (76) of Harvest Hills out of the flight for boys born in 1994 and later.

We had three junior girls on hand today.  Cara Vanderham of Innisfail and Kirsty MacDonald of Banff tied for low gross with 83s, but as Vanderham had previously qualified for the Tour Championship at Wolf Creek, MacDonald earned her spot in the field today with her performance.

Code of Conduct

The McLennan Ross Sun Junior Golf Tour takes great pride in the quality of its competitors, its host facilities, and the support provided by our Corporate Partners. The efforts of the administrative staff and the volunteers that go into making the Tour so successful demand a very high standard of behavior and decorum from the competitors. We have therefore developed a formal Code of Coduct modeled on that of Alberta Golf that provides a set of guidelines for the young men and women that wish to compete in McLennan Ross Sun Junior Golf Tour events.
