It has been quite a week on the Tour!
A week ago today, Ponoka's Ryan Moore blistered his home course with a brilliant 6-under par 66, one of the finest rounds in Tour history. And as it turned out, it was the THIRD lowest round this week! Joel Shackleton of Fort Saskatchewan GC set the Tour's all-time scoring record two days later in Wetaskiwin with a 9-under par 63, and Chase Teron of Red Deer continued the assault on par today in Canmore. Teron shot a career-low and course-record 7-under par 64 today, with 8 birdies offset by a solitary bogey. The Canmore event is always one of the highlights of the Tour season, featuring tremendous organization efforts spearheaded by Head Pro Rich Eichele and his committee, along with the natural advantages of their spectacular Rocky Mountain setting.
Matthew Nesselbeck of Elbow Springs toured the Canmore layout in 1-under 70 today, a distant runner-up to Teron's sensational round. Brandt Goemans of Calgary Elks was solo third on even par 71 but earned his way into the Tour Championship at Wolf Creek, along with Robby Balharry (74) of Canmore and Dylan Dalgas (74),also of Canmore. Jeremy Vold of Cottonwood's 73 was low score in the flight for Junior Boys born in 1992/93, which also earned him a spot in the field at Wolf Creek on August 25th. Zak Griffiths of Lacombe and Brennan Baxandall of Lynx Ridge shot matching 74s to pick up Wild Card qualifying spots in that flight as well. Brandon Zimmerman of Jagare Ridge fired a 78 to get the qualifying spot available in the flight for boys born in 1994 and later, as Jesse Teron of Red Deer (73) had previously qualified.
We had a good field of ten junior girls on hand today. Elizabeth Pettie of the Glencoe shot a solid 79 today to top the field, earning one of the two available Tour Championship spots today. Country Hills' Sabrine Garrison, all of 12 years ago, shot a fine 83 to finish second, followed closely by Kirsty Macdonald of Banff at 84. Mandy Wong of Country Hills was fourth a further shot back at 85, but picked up the Wild Card qualifier spot for the Tour Championship.
