All summer, we have told players on Tour that Black Bull Golf Resort was perhaps the toughest course they will play on the McLennan Ross Sun Junior Tour. Nothing that happened today at this immaculately groomed layout at Ma-Me-O Beach changes that thinking.
Dale Watamaniuk of Glendale was the only player within 3 shots of par today, as his 3-over 75 was good for a two-shot margin over Broadmoor's Luc Bruyere. Luke Steeden of Mill Woods and 14-year old Austin Jacobsen of Ponoka tied for third another shot back at 78. Over 100 juniors came to Black Bull today, double the entry when we added the course to the Tour three years ago. Word is no doubt getting around about the quality and challenge the course presents. The course was in fantastic condition today for the kids.
Qualifiers for the Tour Championship this afternoon included both Watamaniuk and Bruyere, along with Mikeal Skaley of Ponoka (81) out of the flight for players born in 1994 and later, and Wild Card Qualifiers Danny Yurick (80), Jay Hur of Jagare Ridge (81), Jake Kostyk of Pioneer Meadows (81) and Broadmoor's Mason Sparrow (81).
Amanda Woytenko of Jagare Ridge was the only junior girl on hand today and her 91 earned her a spot in the field for the Tour Championship a week from this coming Monday at Wolf Creek.
Q= Qualified for Tour Championship at Wolf Creek Golf Resort on August 25.
WC = Wild Card qualifier for Tour Championship
PQ = Previously qualified for Tour Championship.
