It's hard not to feel a little bit of sympathy for Zach Belitsky of Parksville, BC. Zach has been visiting in Alberta this summer and has had several strong results on the Tour, steadily moving up the Srixon Order of Merit. He looked poised to take his first Tour win today, firing a steady 2-over par 73 under threatening and sometimes misty skies at the Pinebrook layout in southwest Calgary. But,,,,,,,,

Zach possibly WOULD have had his first win had Lane Kinas of Priddis Greens GCC not made the third hole-in-one of the Tour season on his way to a 1-over par 72!!! Lane's ace was the 13th in Tour history and to the best of our knowledge, the first time that a tournament winner made a hole-in-one during his winning round! Congratulations to both young men for their terrific rounds today.

The Kevin Hipple tournament is also special because of the support of Mrs. Hipple, Kevin's mom, who is still an active member at Pinebrook. She shows up every year to cheer on the kids, and the club provides a classy blue blazer to the overall Low Net winner. This year's champion is Anthony Stirling of Willow Park, whose gross score of 75 earned him a spot in the Tour Championship, but whose net 67 earned him the blazer, a keeper trophy, and his name on a spectacular permanent club trophy. Kinas' hardware was no less impressive!

Other qualifiers today for the Tour Championship coming up at Wolf Creek in addition to Kinas and Stirling were Matt Grossi of The Hamptons (75), the host club's Tanner Hicks (74), and Reid Rowland of Mannville, whose 83 was best among the boys born in 1993 and later.

Chelcia Petersen of Glencoe fired a 79 today (which included an 8!) to top the 7 girls on hand, but as Chelcia and the other top finishers had all previously qualified for Wolf Creek, today's spot went to Lindsay Howard of Pinebrook.
