What a day for golf!

Pine Hills GC, just west of the town of Rocky Mountain House, has always been one of the more scenic and challenging courses on the Tour.  Today was no exception as 60 juniors from as far away as Calgary and Edmonton dropped in for the usual Pine Hills welcome of great organization and a fantastic golf course.  Mother Nature played her role beautifully today by greeting the players with clear, sunny skies and warm temperatures.

When the smoke cleared, Brett MacGillivary of the Edmonton Petroleum Club, who has been playing the Tour for a half dozen years, broke through for his first win.  Brett freely admitted in a post-round interview that he "made every par putt I looked at" and his 1-over par 73 was good for a 3-shot margin over Drayton  Valley's Justin Sluchinski and Aaron Haakman of Red Deer.  Sluchinski's finish was his third Top Three result of the early Tour season to lengthen his lead in the Srixon Order of Merit for players born in 1988/89/90.

With four spots in the Monday Pro-Am at the CN Canadian Women's Open at Edmonton's Royal Mayfair up for grabs for Tour players, the competition for these spots is heating up.  After today's event, only the Barrhead Junior Open on July 5 remains for Tour players to earn Srixon Order of Merit ranking points to qualify for one of these four entries into this once-in-a-lifetime event.  Haleigh Petersen of Calgary's Glencoe GCC earned bragging rights in the car by firing a 92 to edge her sister Chelcia by 3 strokes today.  Abbey Gill of the Derrick was another shot back in third at 96 and 12-year old Erin Martens, also of The Derrick, overcame a shaky front 9 by firing a 44 on her back 9 to post a fourth-place 98.

Next event on the Tour will be in Barrhead in two days on Thursday, July 5.  Course organizers informed the Tour at 7:00 p.m. today that they were planning on closing entries to their event tonight at 9:00 p.m. so if any juniors reading this report tonight have any plans to enter Barrhead, PLEASE DO SO NOW to avoid disappointment.

Code of Conduct

The McLennan Ross Sun Junior Golf Tour takes great pride in the quality of its competitors, its host facilities, and the support provided by our Corporate Partners. The efforts of the administrative staff and the volunteers that go into making the Tour so successful demand a very high standard of behavior and decorum from the competitors. We have therefore developed a formal Code of Coduct modeled on that of Alberta Golf that provides a set of guidelines for the young men and women that wish to compete in McLennan Ross Sun Junior Golf Tour events.
