Olds Central Highlands has a strong tradition of turning out champion junior golfers, the likes of sisters Kareen and Kim Qually, along with Shelby Chrest.  All three have had excellent amateur and professional careers and got their start in golf right here in Olds.

Today's Olds Junior Open was the first time this event has been part of the McLennan Ross Sun Junior Golf Tour, Presented by Canadian Western Bank, but given the excellent turnout today, the quality of the golf course, and the organization and support from Head Professional Wade Bearchell and his staff, this event looks like it will be a mainstay of the Tour for years  to come.

Jordan Krulicki of Red Deer, the 2005 Tour Champion, made sure that he will be in the field at Wolf Creek again this year in his last year of Tour eligibility.  Krulicki had a shaky 3-over 39 on his front side, but roared back with a 3-under 33 coming home for an even-par 72, good for a 3-shot margin over Jeff Potter of Dinorsaur Trail GC in Drumheller.  Potter's clubmate Taylor Colberg finished another shot back in third, and all three qualified for Wolf Creek with their efforts today.

Other qualifiers today were Jason Thiels of Olds (77) in the flight for players born in 1991 & 1992, along with John Miller of Red Deer and Spencer Dorowicz of the host club, who tied with 82s in the flight for boys born in 1993 and later.  A 3-hole playoff on their mini-course decided nothing, so both players were awarded spots in the Tour Championship.

Evann Parker of Pinebrook fired a fine 81 today to capture her first title of the season, edging out Jennifer Ha of Glencoe by a shot.  Both players earned spots in the Tour Championship, even though it is unlikely Parker will be able to compete, as she will have likely left for university by the date of the championship.   Lauren Diederichs of Earl Grey and Cara Vanderham of Innisfail tied for 3rd with 84s.

Next event on Tour is the sold-out Carstairs Junior Open scheduled for tomorrow.  Carstairs just hosted the AGA's Men's Mid-Amateur, and from all reports is in terrific condition.

Code of Conduct

The McLennan Ross Sun Junior Golf Tour takes great pride in the quality of its competitors, its host facilities, and the support provided by our Corporate Partners. The efforts of the administrative staff and the volunteers that go into making the Tour so successful demand a very high standard of behavior and decorum from the competitors. We have therefore developed a formal Code of Coduct modeled on that of Alberta Golf that provides a set of guidelines for the young men and women that wish to compete in McLennan Ross Sun Junior Golf Tour events.
