Another great day in Lacombe today for the Jordan Brand Memorial Junior Open, today's stop on the McLennan Ross Sun Junior Golf Tour. Ninety-six juniors from around the province dropped in to test their games at this challenging central Alberta layout, which was in outstanding condition.
Jake Behiels, who topped the Srixon Order of Merit for his age group last summer, picked up his first Tour win of the season today in an exciting sudden-victory playoff over Myles Rindal of the Red Deer GCC. Both players had fired 2-over par 73s; one shot in front of River Bend's Aaron Haakman, and two shots clear of Jared Donnelly of Sturgeon Valley who was alone in fourth at 75. Five players were another stroke back tied for fifth. Behiels' par on the par-5 first hole was good for the win after Rindal missed his par effort.
With the Alberta Golf Junior Boys and Girls Championships on this week in Stony Plain and High River respectively, this week's Tour events give players who did not qualify for provincials a chance to shine, and Lauren Guhl of the Windermere took full advantage in the junior girls' division. Guhl's score of 103 beat out the other 3 junior girls in Lacombe today and qualifed Guhl for the season-ending Tour Championship at Wolf Creek Golf Resort on August 27th.
Next event on Tour is tomorrow at Goose Hummock Golf Resort just north of Edmonton.
