Indian Lakes
It was an all-Ironhead day today at the inaugural Indian Lakes Junior Open, today's stop on the McLennan Ross Sun Junior Golf Tour, Presented by Canadian Western Bank. Tilden Rain and his clubmate Skye Alexis came out on top of the junior boys' and junior girls' divisions, with Rain's 75 two shots better than four other players, and Alexis firing a fine 81 in windy and rainy conditions to beat out Srixon Order of Merit leader Kaitlin Allan by two strokes.
Certainly no one got sunburn today, as the overcast skies and brisk westerly winds made scoring conditions difficult. General Manager John Belcourt has overseen some excellent improvements to the Enoch course over the past couple of years, and the layout was in excellent condition for the players. With only one other event remaining on the Tour schedule after today's tournament to qualify for the Tour Championship at Wolf Creek next Monday, the competition for spots in the Wolf Creek field was very intense. Joining Alexis as new qualifiers today were Marlon Whiskeyjack (77) of Saddle Lake, Mark McKee (79)of Ironhead, Quinn Walberg (79)of Cardiff, Jay Shackleton (79) of Fort Saskatchewan, David Fedorak (79) of the Edmonton Country Club, and Mikkel Holt (82) of Athabasca. Congratulations to all these players.
The final regular season event on the 2007 Tour schedule goes on Thursday at Nanton, about an hour south of Calgary. The club will be closing off entries at 3 p.m on Wednesday afternoon in preparation for the 9 a.m. shotgun start on Thursday, so if anyone wants a last-gasp road trip to squeeze in one more tournament, make the call NOW!
