Every parent loves all their children equally, but sometimes maybe one of them is just a little more 'equal' than the others.  Every Tour stop is a great experience for the junior golfers who come out to compete, but the Canmore Junior Open just somehow separates themselves a little from most of the other Tour events.

Let's face it!  The scenery is incredible to start with, offering the hosts some natural advantages in that regard, but Director of Golf Darren Cooke and Head Professional Rick Eichele put on a terrific event every year for the kids. Rick recruits many of his club's senior members to help with registration, on-course ball spotting to help the players, and to assist with post-round scoring.  Combine that with a nutritious meal of lasagna, Caesar salad and fresh fruit, plentiful prizes, and you have one of the "must play" events  on the Tour that sells out every year.

Chase Teron of Red Deer made the most of the ideal scoring conditions today, firing a fine 3-under par 68, equalling the low round on the Tour this year. Chris Cooke of Canmore  and Mac Keats of Bearspaw were a distant 4 shots back in 2nd place with matching 72s. Defending Champion Timmie House, also of Canmore, tied for 4th at 73 with 14-year old rising star Zak Griffiths of River Bend in Red Deer.

Cooke and Keats qualified for the Tour Championship today, along with Travis Miller of Willow Park, whose 77 was best in the flight for boys born in 1993 and later who had not previously qualified for Wolf Creek. Wild Card qualifiers today were Kyle McLachlan of Inglewood (75) and Levi McDermott of Forestburg (75).

We had a season-high number of 13 junior girls on hand today, featuring some of the top finishers from the recent Alberta Golf Junior Girls Championship.  Jennifer Ha of the Glencoe cruised in with a steady round of 75, 3 strokes better than Jennifer MacKinnon of Willow Park. The top 5 finishers today had all previously earned their way to Wolf Creek, opening up two spots today for Elizabeth Pettie of the Glencoe (86) and Mandy Wong (91) of Country Hills.

The Tour moves into southeast Calgary tomorrow with the McKenzie Meadows Junior Open.  Many of the competitors in Canmore today were planning on making it a "Doubleheader" at McKenzie Meadows in the morning.  The Tour swings into Red Deer on Thursday at River Bend.  McKenzie Meadows entries closed this afternoon at 4 p.m., but spots remain open for River Bend's tournament.

Q= Qualified for season-ending Tour Championship at Wolf Creek on August 27.

WC = Wild Card qualifier for Tour Championship.

PQ = Player had previously qualified for Tour Championship.

Code of Conduct

The McLennan Ross Sun Junior Golf Tour takes great pride in the quality of its competitors, its host facilities, and the support provided by our Corporate Partners. The efforts of the administrative staff and the volunteers that go into making the Tour so successful demand a very high standard of behavior and decorum from the competitors. We have therefore developed a formal Code of Coduct modeled on that of Alberta Golf that provides a set of guidelines for the young men and women that wish to compete in McLennan Ross Sun Junior Golf Tour events.
