Blackhawk Golf Club is ranked #21 in Canada by SCORE Golf Magazine, for good reason.  This Rod Whitman designed layout, just southwest of the Edmonton city limits, is a fantastic blend of links style open holes with native fescues, and tree-lined parkland holes with water and sand hazards everywhere.  It was a treat and privilege for a sold-out field of 101 juniors today to test their games at this terrific golf course.

Cole Chelle of the Derrick and Chad Rechlo of Sturgeon Valley ended up tied today at the end of 18 holes, each firing 3-over par 74s under mostly cloudy skies and brisk winds.  The sun came out midway through the round, but Blackhawk sure was no pushover.  Chelle is one of Alberta's rising young players, having had a great summer, with excellent performances in the Alberta Junior Championship and Edmonton Men's Amateur highlighting his resume.  He and Rechlo went toe-to-toe for three holes in the sudden-victory playoff, each player parring all 3 holes.  On the fourth playoff hole, the course's signature par-5 11th, Rechlo got a bad break when his second shot to the peninsula green went just left, and bounced off the cart path out of bounds.  Chelle's routine par earned him the win and made him one of only a handful of players in Tour history to have won a Tour event at age 14 or younger.  Congratulations to both players for an excellent battle!

Isaac Baier of Wainwright was solo third with a 76, and fourth-place finisher Joseph Perry (77) of Twin Willows earned himself a spot in the field for the season-ending Tour Championship coming up a week today at Wolf Creek. PLEASE NOTE:  Hogan Short and Gage Murphy each qualified today for Wolf Creek but had left the event prior to receiving their Confirmation Letters for the event.  If either player is reading this, please contact Dunc Mills or check the Home Page of the website for details.

Kylie Barros of the Edmonton Petroleum Club battled longtime rival ( can 16 year olds HAVE longtime rivals?) Kaitlin Allan today, with her 77 four shots clear of Allan.  Amanda Woytenko of Jagare Ridge was third at 87.

Only two events remain on the Tour's regular-season schedule prior to Wolf Creek.  Indian Lakes hosts a Tour event tomorrow for the first time, and a phone call to the club at 6 p.m. on Monday evening revealed that the club is still accepting last-minute entries this evening and post entries tomorrow morning up to 8 a.m.  From all reports the course is in excellent condition, and will be the last chance for Edmonton area players to earn a spot in the Tour Championship.

* = Won playoff on 4th hole of sudden death.

Q = Qualified for Tour Championship

WC = Wild Card qualifier for Tour Championship

PQ = Player had previously qualified for Tour Championship.

Code of Conduct

The McLennan Ross Sun Junior Golf Tour takes great pride in the quality of its competitors, its host facilities, and the support provided by our Corporate Partners. The efforts of the administrative staff and the volunteers that go into making the Tour so successful demand a very high standard of behavior and decorum from the competitors. We have therefore developed a formal Code of Coduct modeled on that of Alberta Golf that provides a set of guidelines for the young men and women that wish to compete in McLennan Ross Sun Junior Golf Tour events.
