The McLennan Ross Sun Junior Tour

The Kevin Hipple Memorial Junior Open, held annually at Calgary's private Pinebrook GCC, is always one of the highlights of the Tour season.  Kevin was a junior member at Pinebrook and passed away far too young in his life.  The club established a memorial junior tournament in his honor and we are proud to have "The Hipple" as part of the McLennan Ross Sun Junior Tour.

If there is one overriding characteristic of Pinebrook, it is their big, FAST greens!  Almost invariably, any winner of a tournament at Pinebrook has putted well.  We usually play a White tee setup for junior boys at about 6,150 yards and the Reds are about 5,650 for the junior girls.  You can let out the shaft a bit here, as the fairways are generous and there isn't a lot of dense bush or rough.  But you have to roll your rock!

A key hole coming down the stretch is #17, a 397-yard par-4, requiring a second shot totally over water to a severely sloping green.  Just hitting this green in two is NO guarantee of making par!

The tournament is an 8:00 a.m.shotgun start!  Every year, we always seem to have one or two kids arriving late, so please take note of the early start time. Detailed directions to the course, located in southwest Calgary, are on their website. Please also pay close attention to the club's Dress Code, which also includes the stipulation that ALL hats MUST be removed while in the clubhouse!

The club always puts on a terrific banquet, and the overall low net winner earns a blazer, which will be presented by Mrs. Hipple, who is always on hand to cheer on the kids in honor of her son's memory.
