Format: 18 holes, shotgun start at 9:00 a.m. For 2010 , the club has moved the start back one hour to allow players a little extra time to get to the course.
The Course: From the air, Goose Hummock looks more like it should be located in Florida than Alberta, with all the water! Bring lots of ammo, because The Goose has been known to eat golf balls! Big greens, with plenty of slope to them. Doesn’t usually play overly long for the tournament, but demands accuracy off the tee. In 2005, Wilson Bateman became the youngest ever winner on Tour at age 11 by firing a 1-over par 73.
Yardages: Front
Gold 3,516 Blue 3,316 White 3,119 Red 2,975
Back
Gold 3.074 Blue 2,853 White 2,601 Red 2.406
Total
Gold 6,590 Blue 6,169 White 5,720 Red 5,381
Don’t let the relatively short yardages fool you. Many holes require layups off the tee, making the course play longer. The back 9 is very tight, front 9 more open.
Key Hole: Hole #7: Par 5, 511 yards (Gold tee) • They have actually shortened this hole to make it play easier, but this is still one of the toughest Par-5’s in Alberta. Water and trees both sides of the fairway lead to an elevated green surrounded by water. Par is an excellent score on this beauty!
How to find the course and travel times: About a half hour drive north of Edmonton out 97th St. leading into Hwy 28. Course is a couple of miles north of the town of Gibbons. Good map on the website. Leave a little extra time to get there for morning rush hour traffic through the city.
